1808 O-109a R3 Capped Bust Half Dollar Extremely Fine to About Uncirculated Condition Great Detail! The 1808 O-109a variety is SCARCE (Rarity 3 201 to 500 examples are estimated to exist in all grades). It is identified by a die crack from the rim up through the O of the date.
The a sub-variety has additional obverse and reverse die cracks. This coin is a late state O-109 the die has shattered at this point, so the rims and some detail are very weak. This coin has excellent XF-AU detail! There is a full, bold LIBERTY and motto, bust line is complete except for one small area, hair detail is well outlined, and the shield and eagle feathers are fully detailed. The coin has a fairly uniform medium to medium dark color on the obverse; the reverse is a bit lighter with tinges of color.
Although I dont see hairlines, the coin appears to have been lightly cleaned at one time. There are some light circulation marks on the obverse; they are old and pretty much toned over so as not to be overly distracting.
Small rim ticks at 3:00 obverse and 11:30 reverse. Very good eye appeal overall. Offered at a wholesale price with reasonable offers considered.
